Intantno Skat Dixon e il suo crew vincono la Tag Heuer Indy 500 Pit Stop Competition...

 

 

Scott Dixon hopes that winning the Tag Heuer Indy 500 Pit Stop Competition could be a good omen for the team.

Dixon, driving the No. 9 Target Chip Ganassi Racing car, defeated rookie Sage Karam of Dreyer & Reinbold-Kingdom Racing with Chip Ganassi Racing 11.737 seconds to 12.084 seconds in the championship round. His pit crew received the $50,000 first place prize for its speed, precision and accuracy.

The winner of the competition has gone on to win the Indianapolis 500 six times, most recently with Helio Castroneves in 2009. It was the second win for both Dixon and Target Chip Ganassi Racing in the past three years.

Crew members for Dixon are chief mechanic and right-front tire, Blair Julian; Adam Rovazzini left-front tire; Greg Shuker right-rear tire; Tyler Rees, left-rear tire; Andy Schneider airjack,; Todd DeNeve fueler.

“It’s actually one of my most stressful days apart from Race Day because you don’t want to mess it up," said Dixon, the reigning Verizon IndyCar Series champion and 2008 Indy 500 winner. "I’ve been very lucky and blessed to have such a great team for many years and to win the pit stop competition two times within three years is pretty tough to do. It’s a bit hard with strategy with lane choice and things like that but straight up, all but one race this year, this team has been the quickest on pit road. They’re amazing at what they do. Without them, I wouldn’t have the success that I have had. They are one of the best teams on pit road. It’s definitely going to help me a lot come Race Day this weekend.†

 

Dreyer & Reinbold-Kingdom Racing with Chip Ganassi Racing earned $15,000 for its runner-up finish, which was exemplary given that Karam has yet to make a pit stop under Verizon IndyCar Series race conditions. The 2013 Indy Lights champion is making his series debut May 25 in the Indianapolis 500.

 

“To lose to Scott, he’s a pretty good guy. To get Chip to get two guys in the final is a great accomplishment," Karam said. "He was on the side with better grip. We got to the box at similar times, when I let go of the clutch it was just wheel spin, wheel spin.â€

Guarderò con attenzione tutti ma vedere di nuovo il casco multicolore di Jacques in una monoposto è fantastico,spero che faccia una bella figura (del resto a detta degli addetti ai lavori fin oggi è stato sorprendente) e che possa convincere sposors e scuderie a dargli l'opportunità  di gareggiare a tempo pieno.

Sinceramente non so nemmeno se sia la volontà  di Jacques, quella di gareggiare a tempo pieno. Ormai non è più giovanissimo, la sua carriera l'ha fatta e i suoi successi li ha ottenuti, penso che non voglia neanche più rischiare, forse inutilmente.

Villeneuve ha detto che per quest'anno non farà  altre gare perchè ha già  troppi impegni ma per l'anno prossimo sarebbe assolutamente interessato a una stagione completa, perchè gli piace la direzione presa dal campionato e il tipo di gara che questa macchina permette. Per oggi direi che è impossibile dare favoriti, perchè ci sono tante macchine veloci e perchè, come visto negli anni precedenti, questa macchina è un muro, crea un buco d'aria tale che la scia fa rimanere attaccati anche i più lenti, cosa che francamente non mi piace tanto. Tra le tante storie sarebbe bello, e sarebbe anche ora, se Castroneves si unisse al gruppo dei 4 volte vincitori. O oggi con la livrea Pennzoil o mai più . In generale sarebbe ora per la Penske di fare una figura decente dopo anni di gare pessime. Sarebbe bello anche vedere la fine dell'Andretti Curse o la vittoria di un americano perchè ce n'è bisogno...basta che non sia Kurt Busch!  

Le cose importanti comunque:

1. Che non si faccia male nessuno

2. Che non piova

3. Che non finisca, ancora, in bandiera gialla

4. Che sia una bella gara, poi vinca chi vinca, basta che meriti

La gara partirà  più o meno a mezzogiorno là , facciamo 12.10, durerà  circa tre ore e un quarto, quindi finirà  circa alle 15.30 locali. Busch prenderà  un elicottero per arrivare all'aereo. In elicottero ci starà  15-20 minuti. Il volo verso Charlotte durerà  un'oretta, e fanno circa le 17. Un altro elicottero, facciamo un'altra mezz'ora, dovrebbe essere in pista alle 17.30 o giù di lì. La partenza Nascar è alle 18. Se dovesse piovere o ci fosse una bandiera rossa penso che sarà  costretto a rinunciare, perchè l'impegno Nascar ha la priorità . Non so se sia stato nominato un sostituto, sia per Indy che per Charlotte. In teoria credo che in Nascar possa anche subentrare a gara avviata, non sarebbe la prima volta. In ogni caso è molto tirata la cosa
