Vittoria al debutto per la Commodore ZB con The Giz, al terzo successo consecutivo ad Adelaide. Courtney e McLaughlin completano il podio. Reynolds, Winterbottom, Whincup e Mostert seguono.

Gara piacevole come sempre, meno caotica del solito anche perché le tre caution non hanno influenzato le strategie.

Promossissimo anche Mark Larkham al posto di Greg Rust. Carico come Valsecchi, con la differenza che Larkham ne sa davvero.

Per la botta di Reynolds a Whincup secondo me una penalità ci stava però...

Certo che parlavano di Reynolds ed Erebus come una coppia da tenere d'occhio per quest'anno, e in effetti David pare avere definitivamente ritrovato competitività.

E leggo di grosse polemiche riguardanti il giro di superpole di van Gisbergen, che non sarebbe stato cancellato nonostante un track limit non rispettato.

“I was four wheels off the track. That was clear,” van Gisbergen said.

“I went off the track, obviously gained no advantage, it was down the straight, and fair enough everyone protested, but they didn’t check to see if their cars were on the track.

“The corner before there were six cars that were four wheels off and, in total, there were nine cars that were off the circuit at one point.

“When they found that out, the teams that protested withdrew pretty quick.

“I was expecting to get thrown out but I think it’s a good thing that they didn’t throw eight of us or whatever of us out, that would have been pretty average.”

Van Gisbergen vince gara 2...

Vittoria arrivata per gentile concessione del cambio di Jamie Whincup, che ha lasciato a piedi il campione in carica in una gara che stava dominando in lungo e in largo. Primo ritiro in quasi cinque anni per J-Dub: l'ultimo risaliva a Surfers Paradise 2013, ben 137 gare fa.

Altra grande prova per Reynolds. Erebus ha capito al meglio la nuova Commodore e sappiamo benissimo che se David ha a disposizione una macchina competitiva la sa usare bene. Davvero incredibile il terzo posto di Tander, che mancava sul podio da quasi un anno. Al netto delle polemiche riguardanti il centro di gravità della macchina, differente da quello di Ford e Nissan grazie all'utilizzo di materiali più leggeri per la carrozzeria, la ZB sembra davvero dominante.

Sfortunato McLaughlin, decimo dopo un'improvvisa foratura, mentre Mostert ha concluso quarto senza infamia e senza lode. 

Ora due settimane di stop e poi grande show a Melbourne, dove ovviamente il Supercars sarà la principale attrazione del weekend

Arrivo solo ora a commentare. Venerdì ho fatto tardissimo e sono stato costretto a rinunciare alla gara di sabato mattina. Avrei potuto seguire quella di domenica ma non volevo spoilerarmi gara 1 quindi niente.  

Belle gare, SVG straordinario nel giro in qualifica di sabato. Stesso inizio dell'anno scorso con due vittorie, in gara 1 è stato veramente consistente e con un gran passo nonostante le cose non si siano messe per il meglio dopo la partenza a rilento, fortunato in gara 2 dove stava prendendo una bella scoppola da Whincup, in ogni caso visto come sono andate le cose la vittoria è meritata, anche se Reynolds forse poteva fare qualcosa di più per difendere la prima posizione dopo il pit. 

Mi aspettavo di più da Stanaway. Sconfitto del weekend sicuramente Coulthard, si è perso completamente in mezzo al gruppo tra speronamenti e poca competitività.

Bella la nuova grafica televisiva.

Concordo abbastanza, un paio di imprecazioni mi sono partite lo ammetto, ma devo dire che è bellissimo vedere la direzione gara che lascia correre, fosse sempre così ci metterei la firma.

Non dimentico quello che ho letto l'anno scorso dopo il gran finale, nulla di nuovo.  Sarebbe interessante capire cosa pensano della speronata a Whincup.

The 2017 British Touring Car Champion, Ash Sutton has completed a Supercars evaluation day with Walkinshaw Andretti United.

Sutton drove Scott Pye’s Mobil 1 Boost Mobile Racing Commodore at Winton last Wednesday, ahead of this weekend’s Coates Hire Supercars Melbourne 400.

The 24-year-old won six races for Team BMR on his way to the 2017 title, in his second BTCC season, aboard a Subaru Levorg designed by Carl Faux.

At the end of the campaign in early October, Faux relocated to Australia to lead the technical department of what became Walkinshaw Andretti United on January 1.

"It was a chance for me to try the car and see what Supercars is all about," Sutton told Autosport.com.

"The car was a total monster - a real eye-opener. Even when I was leaving the pits, it felt bloody fast, half throttle and all I seemed to do is keep on pulling another gear.

"Supercars have locked rear differential, and that means they are very different from what I have driven before.

"It requires a slightly different approach in my footwork techniques as the shift in balance is more towards understeer, but dialling myself into this didn't take too long and once I had found the sweet spot I love the way the car rotated.

"The Winton track was a great place to drive the car too - it had a bit of everything with slow and technical bits to really fast and flowing corners too, so I got to see all the abilities of the car.”

Sutton’s day-long program included sampling both of Supercars’ tyre compounds, the two championships sharing a common supplier in Dunlop.

The 2018 BTCC season starts at Brands Hatch on April 6-8, the same weekend as the Tyrepower Tasmania SuperSprint.

"It was a really interesting experience with lots of new things thrown at me," said Sutton.

"You really had to alter your approach with the two different types of rubber as there was a lap time delta of two seconds between the two compounds, but it was good to experience another of Dunlop's products, because I am used to them in the BTCC.

"All in all, I learned a great deal from the experience and I am really grateful to the Walkinshaw Andretti United team for letting me loose in one of its wonderful cars.

"The entire crew was very welcoming and the whole set-up takes professionalism to another level.

"I really enjoyed being around the team and I am planning to go over and watch one of the rounds.

"It is a championship I will certainly be keeping a very close eye on in the future."

Walkinshaw Andretti United leads the Supercars Teams’ Championship after one event, with James Courtney third and Pye 10th on the individual leaderboard entering Albert Park.

Allora, le gare dell'evento di cartello del Gran Premio d'Australia non saranno trasmesse da MotorsTV ma Network Ten ci verrà in soccorso. Venerdì gara-1 alle 7:50, sabato gara-2 alle 2:40 e gara-3 alle 8:20, domenica gara-4 alle 4:45. Le gare dispari si correranno su 25 giri, quelle pari su 13.

Purtroppo si sta facendo largo anche la possibilità che con questi nuovi regolamenti il Supercars diventi un monomarca Holden. Se non altro, Ford e Nissan da Melbourne potranno usare i panels in materiale composito simili a quelli della Holden.

Intanto McLaughlin e Whincup hanno staccato le pole position per gara-1 e gara-2. Qualifiche che in pratica sono delle superpole, perché in 10' su una pista come Melbourne (girano in 1'54") ci fai ben poco.
