Secondo il pilota-giornalista Paul Frére, siccome nel dopoguerra molti piloti usavano le vetture nascoste nei fienili e nei granai, i topi avevano lasciato escrementi nel motore. Trintignant, secondo questa versione, aveva problemi durante le prove di una gara. Qualcuno gli domandò il motivo, e lui rispose che era colpa della "petoulet", che in francese significa "escremento di topo".
