Nel Reparto Corse, Chiti aveva conservato il ruolo di direttore e di progettista dei motori, ma aveva lasciato al nuovo collega lo sviluppo della vettura che si rivelò velocissima – tanto da strappare sempre notevoli risultati in prova compresa la prima pole position "dell'era moderna" con De Cesaris a Long Beach – ma anche estremamente fragile e poco affidabile, come testimoniato dalla lunghissima sequenza di ritiri per guasti meccanici che segnarono negativamente la stagione. La preminenza che la Scuderia diede alla ricerca sul motore turbo in vista della stagione 1983 fece il resto completando il quadro di un anno deludente. 182T La sperimentazione Autodelta sul motore turbo passò anche da uno chassis 182 modificato ed adattato per ospitare il nuovo motore 890T pronto per il 1982. La vettura fu utilizzata in diversi test privati e nelle prove libere del Gran Premio d'Italia 1982 a Monza da Andrea De Cesaris. It was used in 3 variants, but only 2 of them raced during the GPs.
