Il titolo dei piloti andò a Graham Hill con 3 vittorie su LOTUS,

mentre la Lotus (con Lotus 49 e 49B) Power by Ford Cosworth DFV 3.0 V8

si aggiudicò il titolo costruttori (Piloti Lotus erano oltre Hill (GB) ALL -  .Jim Clark (GB) only n°1 - Mario Andretti (USA) Gare 9 ed 11 - Jackie Oliver (GB) dalla 3 alla 12 - Bill Brack (CAN) Gara 10 - Moises Solana (MEX) Gara 11

- this photo is autographed by Ferrari teammates Chris Amon (finished second) and Jacky Ickx (third), as well as John Surtees (seventh), Jack Brabham (retired on the first lap with the engine trouble) and Jackie Oliver (started second, retired on lap 43 with transmission failure). 

This was the highest finish for Chris Amon, perhaps the best driver never to win a Grand Prix

1968 French GP - Jacky Ickx, Chris Amon - Ferrari, Jackie Stewart - BRM

was held at the Rouen-Les-Essarts Circuit on July 7. 

Jo Schlesser had a fatal accident on the third lap of the race, when he lost control in the then-new Honda RA302 chassis which overturned and caught fire partially due to its magnesium content. He was chosen when John Surtees refused to drive the new car, opting for the older RA301 chassis, on the grounds that the new car was unsafe.
This race was a turning point in Formula One as the death of Schlesser prompted many safety precautions in later races. This was also the last F1 race to take place at Rouen-Les Essarts.

Negli anni '30 perlomeno c'era una fila continua di sacchi di sabbia.
