  1. Non vedo l'ora http://www.motorsport.com/f1/news/exclusive-qatar-poised-to-join-f1-calendar/ While the proposed Formula One race in Las Vegas for 2016 has been getting the majority of the publicity, another potential race has been quietly working its way toward the F1 calendar: Qatar, which has long been hoping to host a race. According to well-placed sources, plans for the inaugural race are much farther along than most expected, and the track, Losial International Circuit, is likely to join the calendar in 2016, or 2017 at the latest. It will not take much work for the track to be ready, as the track already holds FIA and FIM homologation licenses. Built in 2004 at a cost of about $60 million, Losial is a 3.375-mile road course that already hosts MotoGP, GP2 and several other series including rallies and enduros. Full lighting was added three years after it was built, well before the Yas Marina circuit in Abu Dhabi became the largest lit circuit in the world. The 2008 MotoGP race was the first night race, and GP2 ran its first night race there in 2009. MotoGP has raced at the track since 2004. Most of the track’s activities are from October to April, a time when weather prevents much of the racing world to stage spectator events. The track is less than a half-hour from Doha International Airport in the country’s capital, and plenty of luxury lodging is available nearby.
  6. http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/116657 Formula 1 is considering tweaks to its safety car rules to minimise delays before restarts, AUTOSPORT has learned. One factor that has attracted criticism in recent years is the length of time it takes for lapped cars to unlap themselves and join up with the back of the field. In some cases, it has taken several laps for the backmarkers to catch up and allow F1 race director Charlie Whiting to restart the race. The matter has now been tabled for discussion at a sporting regulations working group meeting at the Brazilian Grand Prix to try to come up with a better solution. Sources have suggested that one idea that will be looked at is that rather than the lapped cars unlapping themselves, they simply drop back to the rear of the field instead. They will then be credited with an extra lap so they are not put at a disadvantage. By having this system in place, it would be straightforward to restart the race within a single lap of the instruction being given, which should minimise delays in bringing the safety car in. Other items due to be discussed are revisions to F1's engine penalty rules, whether the current five-second penalty for driving offences is too lenient, whether current cars can be used in show events and if there should be changes to parc ferme restrictions. F1 is due to introduce standing starts after safety car periods in 2015. However, there has been some concern about the potential dangers this can cause and it remains possible that the rule change could be dropped if teams agree.
  7. In Honda semmai.

  16. http://www.grandprix247.com/2014/10/29/rosberg-i-love-the-double-points-finale-rule/ Title contender Nico Rosberg is adamant he is still in the running for the 2014 Formula 1 world championship, and his banking on the double points Abu Dhabi season finale to help in his quest for the ultimate prize in motoraport. The German, once the runaway championship leader, has fallen 17 points behind with just three races to go off the back of teammate Lewis Hamilton’s run of dominant form. “It’s difficult for Nico now,” team chairman and Formula 1 legend Niki Lauda was quoted on Tuesday by the German news agency SID, “as Lewis is currently at his very best.” Even the fans agree. In a survey by the news agency, only 22 per cent believe Rosberg can close down Hamilton’s lead and go on to win the drivers’ title by the chequered flag in Abu Dhabi. However, the contentious new double points finale could work in the 29-year-old’s favour, as the winner in Abu Dhabi next month will bank 50 rather than the usual 25 points. Speaking ahead of the United States Grand Prix, Rosberg added said, “I love this rule. I know I can win every race, so my tactics are not really changing. It’s still all to play for in the battle for the drivers’ championship and I won’t be giving up the fight until the flag drops in Abu Dhabi.” The battle between the Mercedes teammates has been packed with drama and intrigue, which has kept fans interested despite the utter dominance by the Silver Arrows this season. Rosberg is aware of this, “Hopefully we can keep the entertainment going right to the end for the fans out there enjoying the contest. The first step comes in Austin, which is a really cool city and a great race track.” “I haven’t had the best races there so far, but I’m determined to change that this year,” he concluded.
