1968 French GP - Jacky Ickx, Chris Amon - Ferrari, Jackie Stewart - BRM was held at the Rouen-Les-Essarts Circuit on July 7. Jo Schlesser had a fatal accident on the third lap of the race, when he lost control in the then-new Honda RA302 chassis which overturned and caught fire partially due to its magnesium content. He was chosen when John Surtees refused to drive the new car, opting for the older RA301 chassis, on the grounds that the new car was unsafe. This race was a turning point in Formula One as the death of Schlesser prompted many safety precautions in later races. This was also the last F1 race to take place at Rouen-Les Essarts. Hankook, una società sudcoreana, è emerso come fornitore ufficiale di pneumatici per la formula uno alternativo. Attualmente oggetto di intense critiche del suo fortemente degradante 2013 prodotto, fornitore ufficiale di Pirelli F1 ha detto che vuole rimanere in griglia oltre la sua iniziale offerta di tre anni che si esaurisce al termine della stagione. Ma il marchio italiano di F1 capo, Paul Hembery, ha detto la settimana scorsa che Pirelli è nervoso non è stato ancora offerto un nuovo accordo per il 2014 e oltre. "Non possiamo rimanere in una situazione di incertezza", ha avvertito. Quando Pirelli è stato dato il via libera per entrare in F1 per la stagione 2011, un altro contendente principale per il contratto era Hankook. Al momento, l'azienda coreana del capo Hyan Bum Cho ha detto di aver negoziato personalmente con Bernie Ecclestone. "Abbiamo avuto una buona conversazione e forse avremo un colpo per il prossimo mandato, o un altro termine," ha detto alla fine del 2010. But the Italian marque's F1 chief Paul Hembery said last week that Pirelli is nervous it has not yet been offered a new deal for 2014 and beyond. "We cannot remain in such a situation of uncertainty," he warned. When Pirelli was given the nod to enter F1 for the 2011 season, another major contender for the contract was Hankook. At the time, the Korean company's chief Hyan Bum Cho said he had negotiated personally with Bernie Ecclestone. "We had a very good talk and maybe we'll have a shot for next term, or another term," he said in late 2010. The source Italiaracing is now reporting rumours that Hankook is once again a possible alternative to Pirelli for formula one in 2014 and beyond. For now, Hembery is unable to say if Pirelli is definitely committed beyond November's Interlagos finale. "We want to know as soon as possible if we are continuing to be the supplier," he is quoted as saying, "as it also depends on the regulations.
